Pulled Pork Recipe for a crowd!

A common question people ask, is how much pulled pork will serve a crowd.

From our research and understanding, we have found that you should expect to prepare ahalf pound of meat per person.

The meat shrinks as it cooks and the fat also cooks off the meat, so there is a lot of shrinkage.

All good things take time… this includes slow cooking your pork. That’s whycrock pot pulled pork is so good!

The key thing to rememberwhen working with meat are the words:low and slow. Be patient with your meat and let it cook on low for a longer amount of time.

This will keep your meat from drying out and/or burning. The longer you have to cook this meat at a low temperature, the better when cooking it in the slow cooker. Find the slow cooker recipeHERE.

How to turn this into a freezer meal:

Place roast, smoked paprika, salt, pepper, garlic powder, liquid smoke, and BBQ sauce into a gallon-sized freezer bag. Place freezer bag into freezer and it will last up to 60 days.

When ready to use, dump ingredients from bag into Instant Pot and add 1/2 cup of beef broth or water in with the frozen food.

Place the lid on top, move the valve to SEALING, and press the MANUAL button. Set timer for 90-100 minutes (or about 30 minutes per pound of your roast).

Do a NATURAL RELEASE when the timer is done – I even like to let it sit in the Instant Pot for a few hours so that it falls apart so easily. Follow the rest of the instructions as written.

  1. Marilee says:

For the instant pot method is it 60 minutes on LOW pressure/30 minutes HIGH? I noticed both times mentioned but didn't see whether it wad high or low pressure. Thanks!

  2. Kari says:

Took way over two hours to cook on high pressure. Pretty disappointed.

  3. Patty Burton says:

The ingredient amounts in the recipe to print are much different than the verbal amounts given in the video. ?????

  4. Ashley R says:

NOT HAPPY. Ruined my piece of meat trying to use this recipe. Over 2 hours later and my pork never got tender. It turned to rubber. It's the same brand and cut (loin) I have used on pulled pork in the past. I don't reccomend cooking pulled pork in the pressure cooker ever. Stick to a slow cooker. I ordered pizza at 8:30 pm after finally giving up and throwing everything away.

  5. Donns says:

    Did it finally get tender?

  6. Gary says:

I didn't see anything in the text specifying what cut of pork to use but from experience and advice I have gotten pork loin is NOT the cut for pulled pork recipes. I have always gotten great results both on the smoker and in the pressure cooker with a pork shoulder roast also known as a picnic roast.

  7. Cyd says:

Pork Butt is always a good pork for pulled pork recipes.

  8. Terri says:

This recipe says it feeds 8. What if I want to double it so it feeds more people. Would I just double all the ingredients and cook it in my 8 qt instead of my 6 qt? Does the time need to change? Or is still the same amount of cooking time?

  9. Cyd says:

Should be the same cooking time.

  10. D Gilliland says:

No it did not get tender and a fake smoke flavor.

Just add in another 1/2 cup of water and you should be fine. Some Instant Pots are hotter than others.

  16. Dan says:

Great flavor! One good tip is to cut the pork butt into smaller pieces before placing in the IP. If you try to pressure cook it whole, it won't be tender in an hour.
