65 Most Spacious Tiny House Designs You’ll Love Instantly (2024)

You love the idea of moving into a tiny house. But will you really have all the space you need to live comfortably?

At the upper end, a tiny house is usually defined as measuring around or less than 500 ft.². Many tiny homes measure closer to 200 to 300 ft.². Some are even smaller than that.

Nevertheless, what makes a home feel open, airy, and spacious versus closed off and cramped often has less to do with square footage and more to do with design principles.

In fact, there are architects that can make 200 ft.² feel more spacious and accommodating than homes which measure twice that or more.

Why Do Some Tiny Houses Feel Roomier Than Others?

Here are some features which can impact how spacious a tiny house feels:

Vertical clearance. One of the easiest ways to make a tiny house feel bigger is to actually make it bigger, but not by extending the square footage. Instead, one can construct a taller house with more vertical clearance inside.

The shape of the ceiling and the walls. The decisions which an architect makes about the shape of the ceiling and the walls of a tiny house also can have a major impact on how roomy it feels. A pitched ceiling, for example, pulls the eye upward, and can emphasize vertical space. But if the angle is too steep, it can make the house feel cramped. Another trick is to build walls, particularly with windows in them, which project outward.

The layout of the spaces and furnishings. Some configurations are far more efficient than others in terms of conserving square footage and leaving more room for open spaces. The number of “rooms” (which may or may not be actual rooms) and features can have an impact. Sometimes, it is also possible to cleverly disguise certain features. For example, cabinets can be built directly into the walls for a clean, streamlined look which preserves a sense of openness. Furnishings which can be reconfigured or collapsed when not in use also can preserve open space.

Barriers or their absence. Railings and walls can help to delineate different living spaces in a tiny house. But they also can become visual obstructions and impede free movement. Generally speaking, the fewer of these barriers which are visible, the more open and spacious a tiny house will seem.

Colors and materials. Design choices involving materials and colors can significantly impact whether an interior feels roomy or cramped. For example, all-white interiors are popular, because many people feel that they create an “airy” atmosphere.

Windows. Doors, windows, and skylights play a major role in determining how spacious a tiny house feels. They allow for some degree of integration between indoor and outdoor spaces. When they are large and positioned intelligently, they can greatly augment the palpable sense of space, even though they have no impact on true square footage. They also bring natural light into the interior. Dark houses almost always feel cramped, whether or not they actually are. Bright, light-filled homes tend to feel more spacious than their square footages suggest.

Outdoor features. Tiny houses which include decks, patios, and so on tend to feel more spacious, even though their indoor space might be comfortably contained. The better united the indoor and outdoor features are (i.e. a “flow” of floor space from the kitchen or living room out onto a patio), the more spacious a house tends to feel.

Simplicity. Complicated architecture and interior design create visual noise. This clutter intrudes on our sense of space, often both literally and figuratively. Simple, minimalist architecture and design do the opposite. They give us room to breathe, making us feel that we have plenty of space, whatever the square footage.

Well-concealed storage. This goes hand-in-hand with simplicity for helping to augment a sense of space. If it is possible to hide most or all of one’s clutter, that goes a long way toward making a tiny house feel spacious. If you can take it a step further and conceal the storage itself so that it blends right into the walls, you’ll further expand the sense of space. That tends to be true even if it means that the walls are bulkier and the interior narrower.

In short, spacious design involves a combination of smart layout decisions that enhance actual space available and clever aesthetic tricks which provide an illusion of more space.

Most Spacious Tiny Houses

Now that we have talked about some of the architectural choices which can impact how spacious a tiny house looks and feels regardless of its square footage, let’s take a look at some of the most spacious tiny houses.

For the purposes of this article, we will not be sharing the largest tiny houses in terms of square footage—simply those which look and feel spacious because of how they were designed.

1. The Valhalla

This tiny house by SimBLISSity measures 344 square feet. That makes it larger than a lot of tiny houses, but still significantly shy of 500 square feet. The builder writes, “While one may not find Odin when entering the SimBLISSity 35’ Valhalla, you will find the comforts befitting the Gods.”

The pitch of the roof above the loft narrows the loft space while directing the eye upward. It also contrasts with the higher, more open ceiling in the main living area, emphasizing that enhanced openness in the kitchen and living room. Clerestory windows bring in light from above, bathing the soft tan and natural wood tones. Simple floating shelves in the kitchen keep the cooking space open.

Here is a view of the living room. The dining table looks large enough to accommodate two or three people at a time, and it looks like three or four people could sit comfortably on the L-shaped couch in the corner. The steps next to the couch lead to the spacious loft. That loft offers a commanding view of the roomy interior and is also packed with storage spaces.

2. The Nimbus

Here is another roomy tiny house by SimBLISSity, this one called the “Nimbus” and measuring 430 square feet.

The house features a spacious downstairs and lots of large windows. But what will really blow your mind is the loft space above.

This has to be one of the most spacious lofts I have ever seen. From the looks of things, you could fit a large bed in here and still have a ton of open for space. Seating has already been incorporated, and doubles as a low barrier around the edges of the loft.

3. Park Model Homes Tiny House Built for a King

Park Model Homes refers to this beauty as its “Built for a King” tiny house. In the catalog, it is the Athens 536 Park Model Home.

While vertical space can help to make a tiny house interior feel roomy, so can an emphasis on horizontal lines. When we see them, our minds tend to think of spaces and objects as being wide and expensive.

Horizontal lines work nicely in this living room, expressed through the clerestory windows and the painting above the flat screen TV.

The house is roomy enough to accommodate a huge kitchen as well. Even with all the cabinets and furnishings, there is a lot of open for space between the living room and kitchen. The recessed portion of the ceiling where the fan is situated further increases the sense of roominess.

4. Park Model Homes “Tiny Mansion”

Another spacious gem by Park Model Homes is their “Tiny Mansion.”

The interior is both wide and tall. There are a few additional tricks which you can see in this photo that enhance the sense of space. First of all, notice the bay windows which project outward. Secondly, the sheer number of windows also serves to make this space feel more open and airy. Finally, notice the little gable in the kitchen over the sink. The gable draws the eye upward, emphasizing vertical space, while also accenting the comparative openness of the rest of the room.

The loft looks almost like a full-size downstairs bedroom. It has an impressive amount of clearance, and can obviously accommodate a large bed.

5. Champion 504 Loft unit by Park Model Homes

I am sharing a lot of Park Model Homes creations because they are really good at creating roomy tiny houses! This one is the Champion 504 Loft unit.

With bay windows all around and a gabled ceiling, this tiny house features a breathtakingly roomy seating area.

Loft space in this tiny house is likewise generous.

6. The Coastal Breeze

The Coastal Breeze is another Park Model Homes tiny house worth checking out.

Lots of light comes in through the huge windows and doors.

Next up is yet another exquisite house by Park Model Homes. This is model 1963-CT.

This house not only features a spacious interior, but also a huge, sheltered porch. But this doesn’t mean that the layout skimps when it comes to indoor space.

Once again, windows and walls which project outward have been utilized to widen the profile of the main living space.

8. Arched Cabin

If you want to save money on a roomy tiny house, you might consider Arched Cabins. This Houston designer sells tiny houses for as little as $5,000.

The arched shape of the tiny house makes for a high ceiling and a roomy look and feel.

9. The Future

This tiny house layout is called “The Future.”

Modern styling inside emphasizes the same theme as the name of the layout. In the living room are decorative wall panels which conceal hidden storage.

Where this house really shines when it comes to spaciousness is the bedroom. Even with three bunk beds in here, there is a ton of open floor space! A ladder in the bedroom leads through a hatch up to the roof in case for whatever reason you want even more space.

10. The Tack Tiny House from Anchored Tiny Homes

From the outside, the Tack Tiny House by Anchored Tiny Homes doesn’t look big.

If anything, its profile seems more quaint and cozy. So you are going to be pleasantly surprised when you see the interior …

Wow! This tiny house sure looks roomy. The all-white walls, ceiling, cabinets and bench contribute to this sense of spaciousness by blending in with each other. The contrast with the natural wood color for the sliding barn door in the back and the floor prevents all that white from becoming overwhelming.

11. Augusta Tiny House

When I spotted this tiny house, it was for sale for just $27,500 in Augusta, Georgia. The house measures 399 ft.².

An unassuming exterior doesn’t really give any indication of how spacious it is inside.

The key to making this interior feel so roomy was in keeping the kitchen to a functional minimum. A lot of tiny house designers make sacrifices in other parts of the home to make space for a super large kitchen. But the reality is that you can make most meals without too much trouble in a kitchen this size. The benefit is that you get a huge living room.

12. The Best Modern Tiny Home

I can’t resist sharing another of my favorite Park Model Homes designs with you. This one is from 2020 and is called the “Best Modern Tiny Home.”

Wow! Its 399 square feet have been put to excellent use. The living room and kitchen are both super spacious and have a contemporary look to them.

This tiny house also features one of the roomiest bathrooms I think I have ever seen in a tiny home. Most tiny houses featured very small counters in the bathroom, or no counter at all. You have quite a bit of counter space at your disposal here.

13. The Riverside Lodge

Can just 240 ft.² feel spacious? The answer that question is yes, if we are talking about the Riversong Lodge designed by Incredible Tiny Homes.

The huge windows and vertical build of this tiny house hint at what makes it feel so roomy and accommodating inside.

Check it out! This is how you make an interior feel massive. There is enough vertical space here that you have a second seating area up on a minimal loft. The huge windows offer amazing natural light and views.

14. The Joann Tiny House

This tiny house by Pratt Homes is called the Joann.

As you can see, it has a huge porch! You’d think that with so much space reserved for outdoor living that the indoor part of the home would be small, but you’d be wrong.

The interior features a huge living room and kitchen with a high ceiling and lots of light coming in through the big windows. I recommend you check out some exterior shots of the house. It doesn’t look like all of this space could fit inside, but somehow, it does.

15. The Ascot

Let me introduce you to the Ascot by the Tiny House Building Company.

This little house measures 19’ long and offers just 167 square feet of space. Looking at the outside, you can’t expect anything but a cramped interior. But wait until you see how roomy it is given those truly tiny measurements …

As I mentioned in the original post, it is fitting that there are little elements of Tardis blue throughout the interior considering that this house looks bigger on the inside than it does on the outside.

16. The Meadowview Tiny House

If you want a spacious tiny house with a big porch, you will want to take a look at the beautiful Meadowview tiny house by Pratt Homes.

This is one of the roomiest tiny house porches I have seen. Just imagine kicking back beside the fire with some friends and enjoying the fresh air while gazing out at some beautiful scenery.

The interior is as roomy as the exterior, featuring ample space for cooking and relaxing.

17. The Glenwood

The Glenwood tiny house manages to squeeze two spacious bedrooms into its small profile.

Both bedrooms provide you with ample storage space.

You would think that managing to fit two downstairs bedrooms into a tiny house would be near impossible. Surely the cost of squeezing them in is a small kitchen and living room, right?

It turns out that isn’t true. Somehow the builder has set aside plenty of space for the main living areas. How did they do it? I have no idea. It doesn’t seem like it should have been feasible, but it was.

18. The Cape May

Another tiny house that is designed by Pratt Homes which is impressively spacious is the Cape May.

I have noticed that tiny houses that dedicate one long wall to the kitchen and leave the rest open to the living room tend to be pretty roomy and open.

19. The Beach View

Pratt Homes has done it again with the Beach View tiny house.

Standing in a luxurious kitchen with beautiful countertops, we are looking toward a comfortable living room with a high, gabled ceiling and huge windows.

From the living room, turning back to face the kitchen, you can see the steps which lead up to the roomy loft. It is actually a traditional, full-size staircase, with the wall behind the kitchen cabinets partitioning it off. And if you look through the back of the kitchen, you can see a downstairs bedroom.

20. The Mini Mansion

For a tiny house to be called a “mansion,” it needs to be pretty roomy and luxurious, and the “Mini Mansion” by Pratt Homes certainly is.

Huge windows span almost the entirety of one wall. Along with a gabled ceiling and lots of open floor space, they make for an airy living room.

21. Grand Teton Park Model Home

The Grand Teton Park Model Home was given a name that is immediately evocative of wide-open spaces. That name is the perfect preview of what it is like inside.

The house features a huge living room and kitchen. Even with a kitchen island which doubles as a dining table, there is still tons of open floor space.

The walls are lined with large windows, bringing in sunlight and views from all sides. There are also additional clerestory windows around the perimeter of the high ceiling. Contrasting dark trim accents the windows and the ceiling, bringing definition to the space and drawing the eye to views of the outdoors.

This is one of those tiny houses which sure looks a lot more spacious due to its high ceiling and overall layout than the full-size houses I have lived in. 22. Tiny House With Amazing Bedroom Full of Windows

Park Model Homes knows how to make even the smallest homes feel like they are enormous.

With its high ceiling, big windows, and the gable on the back wall which draws the eye upward, this living room feels very spacious. But it isn’t the most impressive roomy aspect of this home!

This tiny house boasts what is still to this day one of the most spacious, airy tiny house downstairs bedrooms I have seen.

The outward projection of the walls and the windows all around the bed fill the room with light and views. The bedroom includes built-in storage cabinets and a closet with a large mirror on the door as well. The mirror further increases the sense of space and also provides functional utility.

23. The Champion Athens Park Model APH-528

Park Model Homes has created another gorgeous roomy tiny house in the form of the Champion Athens Park Model APH-528.

You can see a lot of the signature features of tiny house models by Park Models Homes. The living room and kitchen occupy one large, high-ceilinged space. There is a gable along the back wall which draws the eye upwards over the arched windows. Clerestory windows bring in additional sunlight from above.

A particularly spacious part of the home is the bathroom, which includes a surprising amount of cabinet and counter space, both features which are usually pretty underwhelming in other tiny houses.

24. The Helm

If you like the shipping container look, you’ll enjoy a visit to the Helm near Waco, TX. The Helm is a tiny accommodation where you can book a reservation and find out what tiny living is like for yourself. Spacious tiny living.

The house consists of two shipping containers on the ground floor which have been connected together, and one on the top floor, leaving room for a large deck. The deck is accessible from the second floor bedroom or from a spiral staircase from the ground outside.

By connecting the two shipping containers lengthwise, the builder was able to provide a long flow of space from end to end inside the tiny accommodation. The house features a simple layout, with a seating area on one end, the kitchen in the middle, and the bedroom in the back.

Since the entire shipping container was set aside to serve as the upstairs bedroom, it is extremely roomy, as is the outdoor space you can enjoy on the deck. It is easy to see why this tiny house is named “the Helm.”

25. The Timercraft Denali

The Denali tiny house by Timbercraft Tiny Homes is a spacious home built with beautiful materials.

Lots of warm wood and contrasting colors give the interior a homey, cozy feel, but it feels impressively roomy at the same time.

Here is that trick again with having a lower, gabled ceiling in one part of a room, but not in another. Not only does this gabled section designate the kitchen as its own distinct space, but it also contrasts with the high ceiling in the living room, enhancing our sense that in the living room, things really “open up.”

26. The Wedge

The Wedge is a tiny house by the company Wheelhaus. I am actually in love with the exterior of this tiny house, but let’s take a look at the roomy interior.

With its high ceiling, huge glass doors, and fireplace, this living room is both spacious and sumptuous. The doors lead out to the roomy porch, which is sheltered by a large, modern overhang. I recommend visiting the original post to see shots of the porch as well, so you can picture how they fit together.

This is the downstairs bedroom. A lot of tiny house bedrooms are just large enough to squeeze in a bed and some storage, but this one is roomy enough that a narrow desk has been incorporated as well. This adds a lot more functionality to the room, but still leaves plenty of floor space open at the foot of the bed.

27. The Fox House

Making the case that you don’t need a huge amount of actual space to make an interior look and feel roomy is the 100-square-foot Fox House.

The Fox House is a tiny accommodation where you can stay if you are in the Nashville area. It sure doesn’t look large from the outside, but wait until you see the spacious interior.

28. Cali SOLO 1

The Cali SOLO 1 is a tiny house model by Sustain Design Studio. As it incorporates 640 square feet of space, it does push the definition of tiny a bit, but not too much.

The exciting feature of this house which enhances its sense of spaciousness is the breezeway. On one side of it is the main living area, and on the other, is the bedroom, bathroom and kitchen.

You can see how the presence of the breezeway allows for a unified flow of space from one end of the domicile to the other, as well as a perfect union of indoor and outdoor space.

29. The ModulOne

The ModulOne by PassivDom, a Ukrainian startup, is a tiny house made out of components which came out of a 3-D printer. It was built for sustainable living off the grid with solar power.

The house features a simple design with insulated glass windows serving as an entire wall. As you would expect, this does a lot to enhance the airiness of the interior.

But it isn’t just the large windows which contribute to a spacious interior. It is also the smart, minimalist design of the space. The kitchen occupies the far wall in this photo, and takes up almost no space at all. There is a set of folding doors which you can use if you want to hide the kitchen from view, giving the interior and even cleaner, more elegant look.

You can also see that the couch is situated in a little nook in the wall. Actually, that wall is comprised of cabinets. But with their minimalist design, you almost don’t notice them until you take a second glance. That is the type of hidden storage feature which can greatly contribute to a sense of open space.

30. Tiny House Nation Surfer House

Here is another example of a tiny house which is truly on the small side, but doesn’t look or feel that way when you get inside because of smart design.

The little house was designed by Tiny House Nation for a pair of surfers who needed a comfortable living space with room to accommodate a collection of ten surfboards.

31. Spacious Tiny Guest House in San Rafael, CA

This tiny guesthouse was constructed by Modern-Shed for Rebecca Froelich and is situated on her property in San Rafael, CA. The guesthouse measures only 364 ft.², but feels amazingly spacious inside.

The main color in the interior is white, a common trick used to enhance the sense of space in a tiny house, but natural wood tones and soft yellows help to break up the white.

The tiny guesthouse features a kitchen, seating area, and bedroom, all incorporated into a single roomy space. Wide doors can open up the walls, letting in tons of natural light and fresh air.

32. The First Legal Tiny House in the Netherlands

At the time of its construction, this was apparently the first legal tiny house in the Netherlands. As a lot of the most spacious tiny houses seem to be built by Dutch design companies, we are not surprised that this one too was quite roomy inside.

As is common with Dutch design, the interior of this house is minimalist in appearance, keeping the focus on open space and pleasing geometric forms.

The unique angle of the roof directs the eye downwards toward the huge opening in the wall which unites indoors and outdoors. The loft is a simple wood slab with no railing, providing upstairs square footage without really intruding on the sense of space.

What is also really cool is how the skylights are angled down into the living room, directing the light.

33. The Kvale Hytte Cottage

You will find the Kvale Hytte Cottage at the Conover Commons Pocket Community in Washington. It is 1,000 square feet, so more a small home than a tiny home, but it looks and feels huge inside!

Wow! The ceiling practically seems to soar. The living room and kitchen are wide open and drenched with natural light from above.

This is the spacious master bedroom. There is also another bedroom in the house.

34. Two-Story Oregon Tiny House

Between its two stories, this Oregon tiny house offers 664 ft.², but it only has a 357 square footprint. It was designed by architect Carlos Delgado.

The red color used for the trim puts me in mind of the Cherokee Red color which Frank Lloyd Wright was fond of.

With its vertical build, the entire ground floor serves as the main living space, while the upper story provides room for bedrooms. Even the stairwell is spacious!

This tiny house is a good reminder that adding more floor space is an easy way to increase the amount of space you have without adding to your home’s footprint. It is a good option if you do not think you will need to relocate your home in the future.

35. The Ébène

Minimaliste created the Ébène as a custom design for clients who wanted “a very functional space while making sure they don’t feel boxed in their home.”

The result was the largest living room which the company had constructed to date.

36. Dyffryn Ardudwy Tiny Converted Barn Accommodation

If you are visiting the Snowdonia area in Wales, you should consider booking a stay at this tiny converted barn which features a breathtakingly airy interior.

The interior consists largely of a single wide-open space which includes the kitchen, dining area, sitting area, and the master loft.

The view from above shows you how breathtakingly spacious it is in this tiny barn, and how amazing the views are through the front windows.

What is back behind the kitchen? An entire downstairs bedroom providing an additional sleeping area complete with two twin beds.

So, booking a stay at this tiny barn is a great way to experience how a tiny house can be more than large enough to accommodate a family.

37. Yosemite National Park Tiny A-Frame Cottage

Another tiny accommodation where you can book a stay is this Red A-Frame tiny cabin near Yosemite National Park.

The A-frame design provides for a roomy ground floor surrounded with windows and views of the neighboring meadow and woods.

One of my favorite photos of the tiny cabin is this one, taken from one of the two lofts and looking across to the other. A single central spiral staircase can take you up to either loft. Situated at slightly different levels, neither entirely obstructs the view beyond the other. So from here, you can look out through the huge windows, or just enjoy looking out over all the wide open space inside the cabin.

38. The Carriage House

Zenith Design built this tiny house with an attached garage. The garage adds a ton of square footage, and an amazing amount of functional outdoor space in the form of a huge deck just off the bedroom.

The house features two really wide glass doors in the front on the ground floor. By opening them wide, tons of fresh air can flow into the open two-story interior.

Upstairs there is enough room for a super spacious bedroom with a high gabled ceiling. The door which you see next to the bed leads out onto the huge deck on top of the garage.

39. Kauai Tiny House

Here is a spacious tiny house on Kauai which was designed by artist Jay Nelson.

Usually, he builds campers, but he did a great job creating a roomy tiny house layout.

Notice how the floorboards direct your eye clear across the kitchen and seating area to the huge opening in the far wall. I am not sure what is behind us, but from this vantage point at least, the interior looks almost like one big breezeway. Judging by the door on our right, I am guessing it is one, as there is probably open space at our backs.

40. The Alpod

In the minimalist vein, we have the Alpod, a stackable modular design.

But frankly, even if you couldn’t open up the front of the home like that, you would still feel like you had plenty of space in the open minimalist interior. 41. The Russian River Studio

This is another small house, rather than a tiny one, measuring 864 square feet. But with just a little bit of extra footage and open, minimalist design, it looks like it is packing a lot more space than that.

The yellow panels you see here open up to reveal a workspace, with another concealed behind the green door.

Turning to face the other direction, you can appreciate how positively vast it is in here! All that open floor space would be a dream come true for a dancer, yoga practitioner, or so forth. For a small house, it feels enormous.

42. Crows’ Hermitage

Whenever I think of the Welsh barn conversion which I shared with you earlier, I also think about this similar tiny accommodation located near Dublin, Ireland.

The reason for the similar layout is that this structure also served the same original function as a barn before being converted in 2008.

It is hard to imagine a tiny interior feeling more expansive than this one. With the vast windows in the front, the skylights bringing in ample natural light from above, and the open, unobstructed space in front of the bed, it looks like a marvelous place to stay. 43. The Nautilus

Javier Senosiain of Arquitectura Orgánica built this tiny house in 2006. It tends to feature in a lot of lists because of its unique design, which resembles the shell of a nautilus. But it is worth mentioning for its spaciousness as well.

Inside the house, you’ll find this expansive interior garden with walkways you can stroll on between the plants.

There is also this spacious TV room with cushioned seating all around the perimeter. It looks like a fairly large gathering could take place in here, although not every spot has a view of the TV.

44. Mt. Sanitas Tiny House

I first saw this house a few years ago, and it always stayed in my mind, but it took me a while to hunt down the name of it, and I am sure glad I did.

It’s a luxury tiny house by Tomecek Studio Architecture. While it measures a mere 450 square feet, it feels wide open.

The front of the home can be opened up to the huge patio, which also includes a swimming pool. Because the patio is level with the floor inside the home, it feels like a completely unified space, even though part of it is outdoors.

45. The Saltbox Tiny House

Clayton Homes, a segment of Berkshire Hathaway, created the 450-square-foot Saltbox tiny house.

It is hard to imagine a more airy, light-filled living room than this! The walls are more windows than walls, and situated in a peaceful, scenic setting, this living room would make you feel like you were relaxing in the outdoors with all the comforts of being indoors. The high ceiling adds to the sense of expansiveness.

46. Joshua Tree, CA Tiny House With Open Floor Plan

This lovely tiny house immediately enchants with its bright red siding and its large shaded porch. It is located in Joshua Tree, CA, so that shade will definitely come in handy.

This tiny house demonstrates why an open layout is such a great idea if you will be living in your tiny house by yourself or with just one other person. If you don’t require separate rooms for privacy, there is really no reason not to combine the bedroom with the main living space. Doing so really can open up your space!

47. Nantucket Tiny House

This Nantucket tiny house actually is a historic building. It was constructed around the turn of the 20th century. The owners of the cottage wanted it revitalized, so they hired designer Gary Mcbournie to help them make it happen.

Even though the couple owns a larger house as well, this one is fully functional with everything they need to live comfortably right on the water. A high ceiling and windows lining the walls make for a spacious design.

I can’t imagine owning something this amazing in such a great location and not living in it fulltime.

48. Camden House

This house measures 963 square feet and is located in Beaufort, South Carolina. So, the Camden House isn’t entirely tiny, but it is on the small side compared to most traditional homes. But thanks to its expansive layout, it feels anything but small.

The small footprint of the home allows it to squeeze into a narrow lot. Nevertheless, most tiny houses are narrow, so this is the configuration you are used to buy now. The fact that you can see from one end of the home easily to the other prevents it from feeling cramped as it creates a flow of space.

49. Ma Maison Logique 700-Square-Foot Tiny House

This two-story house is just a little bit bigger than most tiny houses, but still is small enough that I’d argue it can count as one.

The design of the house is simultaneously cozy and spacious. The large windows give you a breathtaking view of the scenery, which is frequently snowbound. But high-quality insulation and a wood stove ensure that the home’s residents stay toasty and warm through the winter.

50. Chesterfield Cottage

The Chesterfield Cottage is a remodeled 1,000-square-foot home which is a stunning example of how a little space can feel like a lot when it is beautifully designed.

Since this is an older home, it lacks a lot of the principles which have become commonplace in tiny house design. The windows are smaller, but they still let in plenty of light.

The attic bedroom is reminiscent of a tiny house loft, except that it offers a lot more vertical clearance. The tall window helps to emphasize this fact while also bringing in natural light.

51. GoLogic Modern Tiny Houses

This is actually a single residence which is comprised of three little houses with some open outdoor space between them.

Here is the living room. Huge glass doors, sleek modern furnishings, and a woodstove make it an airy and elegant place to spend time.

This shot was taken from one of the bedrooms. Conceptually, it’s almost like this is a single large, spread-out house, but instead of featuring hallways, it features the outdoors. And open space is sure a lot more expansive than a hallway!

52. Big Bear Tiny House

This tiny house measures 536 square feet, putting it at the larger end of the definition, but still basically within it. It is located in Big Bear, CA.

The house features three bedrooms but still has a spacious main living area. It is surrounded by forest and also features a spacious porch.

53. Triple Shipping Container Home

This spacious, lovely tiny house is the work of Ottawa man Joseph Dupuis. It was a cost-effective design, as each container cost only $3,400. The resulting abode measures 355 ft.².

The floor plan for the house is wide open! In this photo, you can see the kitchen, dining area, bathroom, and some additional living space. It was an interesting design choice to integrate even the bathroom into the main living area, but doing so eliminated a wall which would have made the living space look and feel smaller.

If you had a hobby such as dance which required a large amount of open floor space, this tiny house would be heavenly.

54. Iconic Wall of Shutters

This tiny house by Zecc Architecten and Roel van Norel is a great example of many different aspects of tiny house design, including openness and spaciousness.

The most prominent innovative feature of the home is the wall of glass which features a set of shutters that you can open or close for shade and privacy. But the interior is also beautifully designed.

The layout features storage spaces and kitchen appliances all integrated into the wall across from the shutters. This leaves the rest of the living space relatively open and unobstructed, save for a simple loft. If you venture toward the back of the house where the downstairs bedroom is, you will find the bathroom as well, which is also integrated into the same wall which holds the cabinets and kitchen.

55. The Nest Phoenix

If you are visiting Phoenix, consider booking a stay at the 24’ minimalist tiny accommodation called The Nest Phoenix.

This house features a simple layout which is similar to the one featured in the house with all the shutters. One wall is largely devoted to windows and views, while the other includes the kitchen, storage spaces, couch, and so forth. This leaves the middle of the house wide open.

A small loft is located just past the kitchen. From the top, it offers great views of the rest of the home.

56. The Art Gallery Style Tiny House

Stacey Coleman and Shelley Kimball wanted a home with a very specific look and feel. As they told Heliotrope, “When we walk in and drop our bags and look around, we want to feel like we’re in a modern art gallery.”

The result of their request is a home with an exquisitely open floor plan. The low furnishings, shiny floor, and neutral colors all create a feeling of expansiveness. Decor it is modern and minimal, evoking the art gallery theme.

Some of the furnishings in the house allow the couple to make the most of this open layout. For example, this daybed can be wheeled to any location.

57. Tiny Mississippi Farm House

This tiny house in Mississippi is built in a traditional farmhouse style, and is spacious and luxurious.

Here you see the vast downstairs part of the home. The kitchen is located underneath the bedroom loft, which features a stunning decorative railing. The sitting room feels extra roomy thanks to the high overhead clearance.

The bedroom loft is also spacious. The angle of the ceiling above the bed draws the eye upward, emphasizing vertical space, and presumably also drawing the eye across the ceiling over the railing to all the open space beyond.

58. Double Shipping Container House

This tiny house is located in Litchfield, Australia. There are two tiny accommodations there, called Cabin One and Cabin Two. This is Cabin One.

To create this tiny accommodation, two shipping containers were joined together with a wide patio which connects them both.

You can see that the wall of the shipping container which contains the main living space opens up to the outdoors, creating a combined indoor-outdoor flow of living space.

59. The Urban Treehouse

The Urban Treehouse is the work of the German builder Baumraum®, and consists of two treehouses together, each offering about 301 ft.² of space. The builder explains, “The two tree houses are located exactly at the transition from city to nature and thus connect both worlds.”

Here is the living room, kitchen, and dining room.

As best I can tell, this is the same room, just standing next to the kitchen and facing the other way.

Also from Baumraum® are a number of “tree room” accommodations where you can book a reservation. Many of these are airy and spacious. Let’s check a couple out.

Hotel Elbinselhof Krautsand

There are three treehouses located at this hotel. A glimpse inside one of them reveals an open floor plan and big windows featuring views of the surrounding trees.

Hotel Extension Mendoza

Then there is an unusual hotel located in Mendoza, Argentina which features a more modern design.

Futuristic and luxurious, it offers breathtaking views of the surrounding fields and distant mountains.

61. Orcas Island Retreat

Although this is not a tiny house by the strictest definition, at 1,050 ft.², it is still a small house. But thanks to its open, simple design, it feels large.

While many tiny houses feature a horizontal build, this one features a vertical design.

Various living spaces are located on both levels around the perimeter of the interior, but the center is kept wide open. The home features Japanese influences, including shoji screens which can be opened or closed to partition off living spaces as desired.

62. Coromandel Bach Tiny House

The Coromandel Bach is a stunning home designed by Crosson and located at Coromandel Beach.

Its spacious, minimalist design includes a large breezeway, making the most of the incredible views of the ocean.

In doing so, the architects invited the expansiveness of the sea itself into the home on a visual level. As this photo illustrates, the illusion is that there is a unified flow of space starting at the wide porch in front of us and going all the way throughout the back to the distant horizon beyond.

So, even though this house is small, it gives you the sense that the world is your living room.

63. Delta Shelter

The Delta Shelter is the work of Olson Kundig. Even though it measures 1,000 ft.², its vertical design means that it only has a 200 ft.² footprint. This compact footprint is in keeping with tiny design philosophy and helps to preserve its beautiful surroundings.

Inside the three-story structure is a large wheel that you can turn to open or close the steel panels over the glass windows.

The steel panels can provide privacy and protection for the home when you need it. But when they are wide open, there is a flow of space between indoors and outdoors for an airy environment and incredible views.

This tiny house measures 387.5 ft.². It was designed not only for spacious, comfortable living but also for fast and easy construction by only two people.

This home designed by Olson Kundig is located on the Olympic Peninsula. It is quite a bit smaller than the similar Delta Shelter, measuring only 350 ft.².

A Tiny House Can Feel Luxuriously Large and Roomy

It truly is amazing how roomy a tiny house can feel, isn’t it? Even though most of the houses in this list are significantly smaller than “traditional homes,” quite a few of them feel roomier and airier than the typical suburban houses most of us grew up in.
